FIREPLACE CARE & TIPS

Zone Heating
Zone heating allows you to heat areas of your home that are used the most. Gas appliances are perfect for doing this, as they are compact and require a small amount of space.

Valve Maintenance
• Make sure a semi-annual inspection of the venting system is completed by a qualified technician.
• Check the venting system for corrosion, rust spots, streaks, and holes. Replace any problematic areas.
• Remove the cap and use a flashlight to look inside the vent. Remove debris, bird nests, and anything else.
• Assess the area for condensation, which can cause corrosion.
• Inspect the joints to make sure nothing is loose.
• Check the mechanical supports for rigidity.

Valve Assembly Replacement
The valve assembly replacement should be performed by an authorized and factory-trained dealer. Please contact Fireplace Outlet for complete details.

Thermopile/Thermocouple Replacement
The thermopile and thermocouple replacement should be performed by an authorized and factory-trained Regency dealer. Please contact Fireplace Outlet for complete details.

Shutdown Procedure
Turn the wall or louver mounted switch or remote to the “OFF” position.
Press “OFF” on the remote control.
Turn the gas control knob to the “OFF” position to turn off the pilot.

Remote Control Battery Replacement
Handheld Remote Control (Transmitter)
The quality of batteries, the number of ignitions, and the number of changes to the thermostat all have an impact on how long remote control batteries last.

When the remote batteries are low, a battery icon will appear on the LCD display of the remote control (see image above) before all battery power is lost. When the batteries are replaced this icon will disappear.

Receiver
(may be installed in bottom opening of fireplace or in a wall-mounted box)
The lifespan of the receiver batteries depends on various factors: quality of the batteries used, the number of ignitions of the appliance, the number of changes to the room thermostat set point, etc.

When the receiver batteries are low, no “beep” will be emitted from the receiver when it receives an On/Off command from the remote control. This is an alert for a low battery in the receiver. When the batteries are replaced the “beep” will be emitted from the receiver when the ON/OFF key is pressed (See Initialization of The System).
Plated Finishes
The plated finishes can be cleaned with a gentle damp cloth (do not use abrasive products that could harm the finish and void the warranty). The doors and louvers should be off during this time to avoid damage.

Normal Operating Sounds of Gas Appliances
Hearing unusual noises from your gas appliances is normal since these appliances include different types of steel. The below are normal and do not indicate a problem with your appliance.
  • Burner Tray: The steel of the burner tray is different from the rest of the appliance, so cracking sounds may occur when it expands and contracts.
  • Pilot Flame: The pilot flame can make a whispering sound when it turns on.
  • Gas Control Valve: A dull clicking is normal when the gas control valve turns on or off.
  • Unit Body/Firebox: As the cycling process occurs, the steel will expand or contract, making a cracking or ticking sound.
No Electricity Required
A gas fireplace, stove, or insert keeps energy costs down and provides a safety feature in case the pilot flame is turned off.

Log Replacement
If your logs are broken, turn off the gas valve and allow the unit to cool before opening the door and carefully remove the logs. (The pilot light generates enough heat to burn someone.) If for any reason a log should need replacement, you must use the proper replacement log. The position of these logs must be as shown in the diagrams under Log Installation.

Note: Improper positioning of logs may create carbon build-up and will severely alter the unit’s performance, which is not covered under warranty.

Lighting Procedure
NOTE: The Gas ON/OFF knob cannot be turned from “on”, “pilot” or “off” unless it is partially depressed.
  • Ensure the wall-mounted switch or remote is in the “off” position.
  • Turn the gas control knob so the indicator points to the “off” position and wait 5 minutes for any gas in the combustion chamber to escape.
  • Turn the gas control knob counterclockwise so the indicator points to the “pilot” position. Depress the gas control knob fully. Depress the igniter button until the pilot lights. After approximately one minute, release the gas control knob. The pilot flame should continue to burn.
  • Only when the pilot holds, without pressure being applied to the gas control knob, re-install the glass door to the unit. The unit must not be operated without the glass door in place.
  • If the pilot does not remain lit, repeat operation allowing a longer period before releasing the gas control knob.
  • When the pilot stays lit, turn the gas control knob to the “on” position.
  • Use the wall switch or remote control to turn the unit on.
NOTE: When using the remote control, refer to the remote manual.
NOTE: If there is no spark present at the pilot when depressed, the AA battery may be weak. Refer to “DC Spark Battery Replacement” section.

Glass Door Install/Remove
  1. To install the frame and glass door, simply hook the top door flange onto the top of the unit and swing the door towards the unit. Note: Be careful that the glass gasket does not roll up; there must be a gap between the gasket and the door lip to ensure that the door sits securely on the unit.
  2. With the door in proper position - secure with 3 screws, 2 hooks or 2 latches (depends on unit - see owner’s manual). Reverse steps to remove the door.
If these instructions do not fit your unit, please call Fireplace Outlet for further assistance.

Glass Door
Your fireplace is supplied with high-temperature glass. Water vapor can mix to form a white film on the glass. If not cleaned off promptly, this acidic spot can permanently stain the glass.

Cleaning residue from the glass (exterior surface)
If your glass requires cleaning, we recommend using an approved glass cleaner available at Fireplace Outlet. Do not use abrasive materials.
  • Warm up the glass slightly
  •  Use a foam glass cleaner (not Windex type) or Kel Kem glass cleaner
  • Use a razor (use with caution, keep the blade on an angle) or rub it off. Always keep the glass wet with cleaner while you scrape the glass.
Caution & Warnings:
  • Do not clean when the glass is hot.
  • The use of substitute glass will void all product warranties.
  • Care must be taken to avoid breakage of the glass.
  • Do not strike or abuse the glass.
  • Do not operate this fireplace without the glass front or with a cracked or broken glass front.
  • Wear gloves when removing damaged or broken glass.
  • Replacement of the glass panel(s) should be done by a licensed or qualified service person.
Glass Replacement
In the event that you break your glass by impact, purchase your replacement from Fireplace Outlet.
Replacement glass is shipped with gasket installed.
CAUTION: Wear gloves when removing damaged or broken glass.

General Maintenance
  • Turn off the gas valve before you clean it. Brush and vacuum at least once a year.
  • When the unit is cool, use a gentle product to clean with a damp cloth.
  • The faceplates & fireboxes are finished in a heat resistant paint and should only be refinished with heat resistant paint. Note: Faceplates and inner panels made from stainless steel will naturally change color over time.
  • Periodically check the burner and its flame to make sure they’re in the proper position.
  • Enlist a qualified technician to inspect your appliance and venting system at least once a year. Note: Never operate the appliance without the glass properly secured in place.
  • Do not use this appliance if any part has been underwater. Immediately call Fireplace Outlet to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the control system and any gas control which has been underwater.
  • In the event this appliance has been serviced, check that the vent-air system has been properly resealed & reinstalled in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Verify operation after servicing.

First Fire
The first time you burn your fireplace, burn for at least four hours to ensure the paint is cured. The unit may cause an odor when first used, and smoke detectors may go off. Open a window for ventilation. A film can form on the glass, which should be cleaned after the four hours of burning.

NOTE: When the glass is cold and the appliance is lit, it may cause condensation and fog the glass. This condensation is normal and will disappear in a few minutes as the glass heats up.

Do not attempt to clean the glass while it is still hot!
Do not burn in the unit without the glass door in place.

Fan Maintenance
Fan bearings do not require lubrication. Clean the fan twice a season with a soft brush or a vacuum with a crevice or dusting attachment.

Door Gasket
If the door gasket requires replacement, you must use 5/8” (16mm) diameter oval, medium-density material, 34” (864mm) long for each side. A proper high-temperature gasket adhesive is required. Contact your dealer for the Regency Gasket Repair Kit.

Direct Vent Technology
Direct Vent technology means your gas vent pipe can be put into any room, including your kitchen or bathroom. All that’s required is an exterior wall or unobstructed access to the roof.

Adjusting Flame Height
Adjust the flame height by opening the control panel and locating the main gas valve. A high-low value can be rotated unless the main gas valve does not have the adjustment dial due to the kind of remote control you have. If you deal with the latter, contact us for assistance.
